EV vs PHEV at a Glance

What is an EV?

An EV (Electric Vehicle) runs entirely on electricity. It uses a large battery to power an electric motor and has no petrol engine. The battery is recharged by plugging the vehicle into a power source.

Plug in → Charge → Drive

What is a PHEV?

A PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) combines an electric motor and battery with a petrol engine. You can plug it in to charge the battery and drive on electric power, but when the battery is depleted, or when additional power/range is needed, the petrol engine can take over.

Plug in → Drive electric → Petrol when needed
